Is your Wave Spa pump completely dead, with no lights on the controller and no display? Don't worry. Most no-power problems are caused by the power supply rather than the spa itself, and can be fixed at home in a few minutes. Please work through the steps below in order.

Safety first: always switch off and unplug the spa before handling the plug, RCD or controller connection. Never open the pump or heater casing.

Step 1: Check the socket

  1. Make sure the wall socket is switched on.

  2. Plug another appliance (such as a lamp or kettle) into the same socket to check it's working.

  3. Check your home's fuse box or consumer unit in case a circuit breaker has tripped.

Step 2: Remove any extension lead

Your spa must be plugged directly into an earthed wall socket. Extension leads, adaptors and timers can stop the spa powering on properly, and on newer controllers can trigger a PE code. Remove them and plug the spa straight into the wall.

Step 3: Test and reset the RCD plug

The RCD (UK/EU) or GFCI (US) plug is a trip switch that cuts power to protect you. If it has tripped, your spa will have no power.

  1. Insert the plug into the power outlet.

  2. Press the ON / RESET button. The indicator light should turn red.

  3. Press the OFF / TEST button. The indicator light should turn off.

  4. Press the ON / RESET button again. If the light turns red, the RCD is working properly.

If the RCD does not behave like this, or keeps tripping, switch off the spa and contact us using the chat widget (see below). Don't keep resetting it.

Step 4: Check the controller connection is dry

  1. Unplug the spa from the mains.

  2. Disconnect the controller from its cable and check that the pins are completely dry. If there's any moisture, leave it to dry fully.

  3. Reconnect the controller, taking care to align the pins, and screw the sleeve covering the connector on tightly so it stays waterproof.

  4. Plug the spa back in, reset the RCD and turn the spa on.

Step 5: Check the plug fuse (UK)

If the spa still has no power, unplug it and check the fuse in the plug. Replace it if it has blown.

Still no power?

If you've worked through every step and the spa still won't power on, there may be a fault with the controller or heater unit. If you think the socket or wiring may be at fault, please ask a qualified electrician to check it.

Otherwise, please use the chat widget at the bottom of the page and send us the following in one message so our team can assess it and advise on the next steps, which may include a replacement controller under your warranty:

  • Proof of purchase or order reference number

  • A photo of the batch code on your spa (bottom-right of the warning/safety panel, e.g. "07 24")

  • A photo of the controller showing it has no display

  • A photo of the RCD plug and the power outlet the spa is plugged into

How to avoid power problems

  • Never use an extension lead. Always plug directly into an earthed wall socket.

  • Test the RCD before each use using the steps above.

  • Keep the controller connection dry and make sure the connector sleeve is screwed on tightly.
