What does the HL error code mean?

The HL error code indicates that the spa has detected a high temperature issue within the heating system.

We know this can be frustrating, but in most cases it can be cleared by following the steps below.

Most common cause

The HL error code is most commonly triggered when the spa is unplugged from the power socket while it is still heating.

Important tip for the future

Always turn off the heating first using the control panel before switching the spa off at the socket.
Avoid unplugging the spa while it is actively heating.

How to clear the HL error code

Please follow the steps below carefully and in order.

Step 1: Power off and prepare

  1. Turn the heater and the filter off at the controller and wait 5 minutes, do not unplug for at least 5 minutes

  2. Unplug the spa completely from the power socket.

  3. Unscrew the filter(s):

    • Newer spas have two filters

    • Older models have one filter

  4. Remove the hair guards from the filters.

Step 2: Clean and reset

  1. Clean the hair guards thoroughly.

  2. Reattach the hair guards.

  3. Leave the filters off for now.

  4. Wait 30 minutes.

  5. Plug the spa back in.

  6. Turn the spa on.

  7. Press the RESET button on the RCD.

What happens next?

✅ If the HL code does NOT appear

  1. Run Filter Only (no heating) for 30 minutes.

  2. Turn the spa off.

  3. Reattach the filter(s).

  4. Turn the spa back on.

  5. You can now start heating your spa.

⚠️ If the HL code DOES appear

  1. Press and hold the Filter button until the filter starts running
(you may need to do this a few times).

  2. The HL code will continue flashing — this is normal.

  3. Leave the spa running for up to 30 minutes.

  4. Turn the spa off.

  5. Reattach the filter(s).

  6. Turn the spa back on and run the filter for another 30 minutes.

  7. You can now start heating your spa.
