Extra tips
-
Filters should be cleaned regularly and replaced as recommended
-
Avoid placing the spa in direct sunlight, which can affect performance
-
You may need to pour boiling water to free up debris stuck in the pipes. Please do this with water already in the spa at least to the min line level. Then pour it near the filter inlet closest the heater and allow it to pull through. If this reduces noise, you can repeat a few times to get it running smooth
Filter maintenance schedule
Keeping to a regular maintenance routine will extend the life of your filter and keep your spa running quietly and efficiently.
- Every 1–2 weeks: Rinse the filter cartridge with a garden hose to remove surface debris and body oils.
- Every 4–6 weeks: Soak the filter overnight in a dedicated filter cleaning solution to break down mineral deposits and grease.
- Every 3–4 months (or sooner if performance drops): Replace the filter cartridge entirely. A worn filter cannot be fully cleaned and will restrict flow.
- Always: Keep a spare filter cartridge on hand so you can swap it in immediately if the current one needs replacing.
Understanding the noises — what they mean
Not all noises are the same. Here's a quick guide to help you identify what you're hearing:
- Rattling or vibrating: Usually caused by debris caught in the impeller or a loose filter housing. Follow the boiling water method and check the filter is seated correctly.
- Gurgling or air bubbling: Often a sign of low water level or air trapped in the pump. Top up the water and run the filter for a few minutes to purge the air.
- High-pitched whining: Can indicate a partially blocked filter or a pump that is working too hard. Clean or replace the filter first.
- Complete silence (no operation): Check the power connection, ensure the spa is not in sleep/economy mode, and verify the water level is above the minimum line.
Frequently asked questions
How often should I replace my Wave Spa filter?
We recommend replacing the filter cartridge every 3–4 months under normal use. If you use your spa frequently or notice a drop in water flow, replace it sooner.
Can I run my spa without a filter?
No — never run your spa without a filter installed. The filter protects the pump from debris and keeps the water clean. Running without one can damage the pump and void your warranty.
The boiling water method didn't fix the noise — what next?
If the rattling persists after repeating the boiling water flush 2–3 times, the impeller inside the pump may have debris lodged in it that cannot be dislodged this way. Please use the chatbot at the bottom of this page to get in touch with our support team.
My filter looks clean but water flow is still weak — why?
Even a visually clean filter can be clogged with microscopic mineral deposits and body oils that restrict flow. Try soaking it overnight in filter cleaning solution. If flow doesn't improve, replace the cartridge.
Where can I buy replacement filters?
Genuine Wave Spa replacement filters are available directly on our website. Using genuine parts ensures the best fit and performance for your spa.
