Starter Kit FAQs

What chemicals do I need to start a hot tub?

Sanitiser, pH increaser and reducer, an alkalinity increaser and a way to test. Balance alkalinity first, then pH, then sanitiser. A starter kit covers all of it in one order rather than four.

How much chlorine do I add for the first time?

Balance alkalinity and pH before adding sanitiser, because chlorine works poorly outside the correct pH range. Then dose to 3 to 5 ppm, run the pump for 20 minutes and wait a further 20 before getting in.

Which starter kit should I choose?

The 500g Collection suits a first fill on a smaller tub. The Kilo Collection lasts longer and costs less per dose. If you also need a filter, the two filter bundles pair the chemicals with the right cartridge.

Do I need a starter kit for an inflatable hot tub?

Yes. Water care is identical whatever the tub is made from. Any spa holding heated water needs sanitising and pH balancing to stay safe and to protect the heater and filter.

In what order do I add the chemicals?

Alkalinity first, because it buffers everything else. Then pH, then sanitiser. Add one at a time with the pump running, wait 15 minutes between different products, and never mix chemicals together.
