Is your Wave Spa controller showing an E9 error code? This guide explains what the code means and the steps to clear it safely at home.

What does the E9 error code mean?

The E9 error code points to an electrical or power supply fault at the pump. The spa has detected a problem with the power it's receiving, such as a voltage drop, a tripped RCD or a blown fuse, and has stopped running to protect itself and you.

Most common cause

E9 is most often triggered when the spa is plugged into an extension lead, adaptor or timer instead of directly into a wall socket. These can cause voltage drops that the spa reads as a fault.

Other possible causes

  • A tripped RCD on the power cable

  • A blown fuse in the plug

  • A socket that isn't earthed or hasn't been installed correctly

How to clear the E9 error code

Please follow the steps below in order.

Step 1: Power off completely

  1. Turn the spa off at the controller.

  2. Switch off the power at the wall socket.

  3. Unplug the spa completely.

Step 2: Check the power source

  1. Remove any extension lead, adaptor or timer.

  2. Plug the spa directly into an earthed wall socket.

Step 3: Reset the RCD

  1. Switch the socket back on.

  2. On the RCD box on the power cable, press RESET, then TEST, then RESET again.

  3. Turn the spa back on at the controller, holding the power button for 10 seconds.

Step 4: Check the plug fuse

If the code returns, switch off and unplug the spa, then check the fuse in the plug and replace it if it has blown.

Important: Never open the pump or heater casing. This is unsafe and will void your warranty.

How to prevent the E9 error code

  • Never use an extension lead. Always plug the spa directly into an earthed wall socket.

  • Test the RCD before each use.

  • If you're unsure your socket is earthed or correctly installed, ask a qualified electrician to check it.
