What you might notice
Water isn't heating
Temperature rises very slowly
Heater turns off unexpectedly
We are really sorry to hear your spa isn't heating as expected. We recommend trying a quick reset that often gets things running again.
Please follow these steps:
- Switch off the spa using the remote control.
- Then turn it off at the plug.
- Unscrew and remove the filter caps.
- Make sure your spa water is above the minimum fill line.
- Pour boiling water from a kettle or pan near the filter inlet (the grey circle) closest to the heater — you can pour it on top of the water. This helps clear any airlock in the heating system.
- Replace the filter caps securely.
- Switch the spa back on at the plug.
- Using the remote, turn the heaters and filters back on.
Once everything is running again, please leave the spa for two hours, then check to see if the temperature has started to rise. This process usually restarts the heating system.
How long should heating take?
Wave Spas heat gradually — this is completely normal. Here's what to expect:
- Typical rate: 1–2°C per hour, depending on conditions.
- Starting from cold: It can take 12–24 hours to reach your target temperature from a cold fill.
- Ambient temperature matters: In cooler weather (below 10°C), heating will be slower. Using a thermal cover when the spa is not in use makes a significant difference.
- Lid on = faster heating: Always keep the cover on while heating to retain heat and reduce energy use.
Check and clean your filters
Dirty or blocked filters are the number one cause of heating issues. The spa's safety system will shut the heater off if it detects restricted water flow. We recommend cleaning your filters regularly:
- Remove the filter cartridges and rinse them thoroughly under a tap with clean water.
- For a deeper clean, soak the filters in a filter cleaning solution for several hours, then rinse well before replacing.
- Filters should be replaced every 3–6 months depending on usage.
- Never run the spa without filters installed — this can damage the pump and heating system.
Other things to check
- Water level: If the water level is below the minimum line, the heater will not operate. Top up with fresh water if needed.
- Water chemistry: Unbalanced water (pH too high or too low) can affect performance. Test your water regularly and adjust as needed.
- Power supply: Make sure the spa is plugged directly into a grounded wall socket — avoid extension leads, as these can cause power issues.
- Error codes: If your remote control is displaying an error code (e.g. E1, E2, E3), please check your user manual for the specific meaning, or contact us and we'll help you diagnose it.
Good to know
- Heating is gradual — 1–2°C per hour is normal.
- Dirty filters are the number one cause of heating issues.
- Always keep the cover on when heating to retain warmth.
- Cold weather will slow heating — this is expected and not a fault.
If the temperature still doesn't increase after following these steps, please don't hesitate to get in touch. Use the chat widget at the bottom of the page and our team will be happy to help.
